preserving

we went out to a berry farm on saturday for raspberries to make ourselves a store of jam. raspberries are my absolute favorite berry, and I am always that crazy girl at the market paying $6 for a pint the first saturday they show up. we had to wait for the raspberries, as they are picked after the dew has evaporated, so we perused the garden centre attached, and came home with a flat [10 pints] of raspberries, a flat of strawberries [8 pints] and also a box of on-sale perennials. we were quickly down two boxes of raspberries, and had very stained hands as they were the nicest we've ever eaten. the jam is delicious, it was a very productive day. on to pickles!

they look so delicious.....I can smell them.

I recently discovered that I do like raspberries - I didn't like them before, because I was getting bad ones. I find the ones from the farms that grow them are the best.

mmmmm. We did freezer jams: strawberry, strawberry mango and raspberry. Peach will be next!

I'd love to do jam but I end up just freezing them and making "cooking fruit" (we called it that when the kids were little) in the winter as a cure all when you're feeling like you're coming down with something.
